She was one of the most influential fashion icons of all time. During a very brief career as a cabaret singer, Chanel performed in clubs in Vichy and Moulins where she was nicknamed “Coco.” In the 1930`s Chanel partnered with Duke Fulco de Vedura, of Verdura Jewellery to launch a collection of timeless designs including byzantine styled jewellery that Chanel later introduced into her collections.Chanel costume jewellery, generally bold in design, gold plated with distinctive colouring. Her iconic CC `s seen on so many of her creations was her interpretation of a stained glass window in the Aubazine Abbey, Correze, in France where she spent her early years in its orphanage. Venice was a place that became Gabrielle Chanel’s major source of inspiration outside of France. The tarnished gold in the Byzantine mosaics added distinct character to her creations.
