During 1909, Gabrielle Chanel was introduced to the equestrian world through Étienne Balsan, a prominent cavalry officer, gentleman, and millionaire. While residing on Balsan's estate, Chanel developed a keen interest in horse riding and became a passionate admirer of the sport, which ultimately influenced her future career.
