1960s Vintage Trifari Textured Leaf Brooch

Regal elegance. Silver plated maple leaf brooch. Features textured silver plate with discrete polished silver trim. Safety catch pin, signed Trifari. The Maple leaf is the emblem of Canada. It is suggested that The Queen Mother, then Queen Elizabeth, received a maple leaf brooch from George VI before the couple toured Canada in 1939 - Although another version implies it was a gift during the tour of Canada. It was then given to her daughter, our late Queen in 1951 who lent it to The Duchess of Cornwall and Duchess of Cambridge on their first trips to Canada. Silver plate, 5.5 cm x 4 cm ABOUT THE DESIGNER Trifari created some of the most desirable costume jewellery of the twentieth century, many of its designers having trained and designed at Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier. Amongst them was Alfred Phillipe who joined Trifari in 1930 as head designer and Andre Boeuf another celebrated signature designer from Cartier who became lead designer in the 60s once Alfred Phillipe retired. The company patented its own non-tarnish metal, calling it Trifanium.
